Does the City have someone who can take Affidavits?

The City has Commissioners for Oaths available for taking an individual’s Affidavit.  If the form indicates the Affidavit must be taken by a Notary Public then you must contact a Lawyer.

Is there a fee for having a Commissioner take an Affidavit?

The City of Welland charges an administrative fee of $15.00 for a Commissioner to take an individual’s Affidavit provided the form is completed by the Applicant.  If the Applicant requires assistance in completing the form then a fee of $20.00 is charged.

What documents must I present to the Commissioner?

The Commissioner for Oaths will require picture identification (e.g. Driver’s License or Passport that contains a picture of the individual).

Are the Affidavits available at City Hall?

No. The City does not have prepared Affidavits available.  The individual is responsible for obtaining or writing up and supplying the form to be signed to the Commissioner when he/she arrives at City Hall.

When is the Commissioner available and do I need to make an appointment?

A Commissioner is available at City Hall in the Clerk’s Office during regular office hours - Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (excluding holidays).

An appointment is not necessary however it may be convenient to contact the Clerk’s Office prior to arrival to confirm that a Commissioner will be available.
