Election Workers:

Election Workers Application Form   All positions have now been filled.  Thank you for your interest.

If you are interested in working for the 2012 Municipal By-Election, please complete the Election Worker Application Form (found above) and return it to the Clerk’s Department at City Hall prior to February 24, 2012.

The completed application can be returned in person, by mail, fax, or scanned and sent by email.  Contact information is as follows:

All applicants will be required to complete this application in its entirety and it will be reviewed by the Election Coordinator.  Candidates, a candidate’s spouse, a member of a candidate’s immediate family, or a person connected to a candidate’s election campaign (to the best knowledge of City Clerk’s staff), will not be considered for employment.

Every effort will be made to appoint staff to a voting place in their neighborhood.  In addition to reducing traveling time, this practice increases the likelihood that election officials may recognize the eligible electors.

Attendance at a training session is mandatory for all Voting Day staff.  To enhance the retention of information, training will occur as close to voting day as possible.

An election worker may work one of the following days or a combination of days to suit their schedules:

  • Advance Poll Week March 12 - 16, 2012
  • Advance Poll Day on Saturday, March 17, 2012
  • Advance Poll Day on Wednesday, March 21, 2012
  • Election Voting Day on Monday, March 26, 2012

There will be training sessions that will be provided for each of the following positions:
  • Poll Supervisor
  • Deputy Returning Officer (DRO)
  • AccuVote Tabulator Deputy Returning Officer (AVT DRO)
  • Affidavits Deputy Returning Officer (Affidavits DRO)
  • Relief Deputy Returning Officer (DRO)

 


 


OVERVIEW OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following descriptions reflects the general details considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the position identified, and shall not be construed as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in such classification.

POLL SUPERVISOR
The Supervisor is to act in a supervisory capacity and oversee the proper set up and closing of the poll, monitor and coordinate all polling activities, and prepare a summary statement of voting at the poll.  The Supervisor is also responsible for the overall security, peace and order of the polling facility.  He or she may be required to act in any work capacity of election officer assigned to the polling location.

The Supervisor will be stationed near the entrance to the voting place, will greet electors as they arrive, assist them with any questions they may have, and direct them to the proper Polling Subdivision DRO.  The Supervisor will direct persons not on the Voters’ List to the Affidavits DRO to complete an Application to Amend Voters List.

QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to those individuals who have previously worked in an Election. 
 

ACCU VOTE TABULATOR DEPUTY RETURNING OFFICER
The Accu Vote Tabulator Deputy Returning Officer (AVT DRO) is stationed beside the Accu Vote Tabulator and is responsible for inserting ballots into the tabulator, assisting voters in the automated voting process, producing the tabulation tapes at the close of polls, downloading election results to headquarters through the modem connection, and delivering the voting equipment, ballots and account summaries to Election Central after the poll closes.

QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working in one or more Election(s) is preferred but not mandatory.

TOUCH SCREEN DEPUTY RETURNING OFFICER
The Touch Screen Deputy Returning Officer (TS DRO) is responsible for receiving each voter, striking through the name and address of the voter in the Voters’ List and providing the voter with the appropriate ballot.  The TS DRO is also responsible for recording declarations, objections, etc. in the Voters’ List and the completion of the Ballot Reconciliation.

QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to those individuals who have previously worked in an Election.

DEPUTY RETURNING OFFICER
The Deputy Returning Officer (DRO) is responsible for receiving each voter, striking through the name and address of the voter in the Voters’ List and providing the voter with the appropriate ballot.  The DRO is also responsible for recording declarations, objections, etc. in the Voters’ List and completion of the Ballot Reconciliation. 

QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to those individuals who have previously worked in an Election.

AFFIDAVITS DEPUTY RETURNING OFFICER
The Affidavits Deputy Returning Officer (Affidavits DRO) is responsible for taking affidavits if the voter’s name is not on the List of Electors, or if the school support or other eligibility is incorrect.  The Affidavits DRO is to check the appointments of Scrutineer(s) before the opening of the polls and during the voting day as scrutineer(s) come and go.  The Affidavits DRO is responsible for returning to the Clerk on Election Night, copies of all the completed forms.

QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working in one or more Election(s) is preferred but not mandatory.
