What is RSS?

RSS (Real Simple Syndication) is a format for sharing Web content. Using RSS feeds, you can have news and frequently changing City of Welland content headlines and their links automatically delivered directly to your desktop.

What are the Advantages of RSS?

How to use RSS Feeds

To view one of our feeds, you will need an RSS aggregator (or reader). There are a large number of stand-alone and web based readers available, some free, some paid. In fact, RSS is being integrated into new web browsers such as Mozilla's Firefox and Internet Explorer 7.

The best reader for your needs is largely a matter of personal choice and we do not recommend any reader over another. A quick search of "RSS Reader Review" in your favourite search engine should provide some good current information. As always, be very careful that you trust your download site and the software vendor to protect yourself from viruses and malware.

There are generally two ways to add sites to your RSS feed reader. Most sites that offer an RSS feed have an "RSS" or "XML" button on web pages with feeds. When you click on the link, it will instantly add that feed to your aggregator. Other readers require you to copy and paste the address (or URL) of the feed into the program.
